He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 So you are after him! 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And hath fear, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and palms 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
