The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 arise, and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
