He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to a rich man, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
