The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
