۞ Gather together those who did wrong and their comrades and that which they were wont to worship 22 other than Allah, and guide them to the Path of Hell! 23 And stop them, for they shall be questioned: 24 "What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do in the world)?" 25 But they, that Day, are in surrender. 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 They said, “It is you who used to come to us from our right, in order to sway.” 28 They will say: "No, you were the ones who would not believe. 29 We had no authority over you, in fact, you were a rebellious people. 30 and so we became deserving of the Word of our Lord that we shall be made to suffer chastisement. 31 So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. 32 On that Day, they will all share the chastisement. 33 This is how We deal with the criminals. 34 For when it was said unto them, There is no Allah save Allah, they were scornful 35 and would say: "Shall we, then, give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. 37 (They will be told): “You shall taste the grievous chastisement. 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 For them is a known sustenance, 41 Fruits. And they will be honoured 42 In the Gardens of delight, 43 sitting face to face upon couches, 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 White, delicious to those who drink. 46 Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating, 47 With them will be spouses, modest of gaze and beautiful of eye, 48 As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded. 49 Then they will turn to one another, mutually questioning. 50 And a speaker from among them will say: verily there was unto me a mate. 51 who was wont to ask [me,] 'Why - art thou really one of those who believe it to be true 52 Shall we be recompensed for our deeds after we die and become bones and dust? 53 He said (to others on the thrones), “Will you take a glimpse (into hell) below?” 54 He will look down and see him in hell. 55 And he will say: by Allah, thou hadst wellnigh causedest me to perish. 56 “And were it not for the munificence of my Lord, I too would have been seized and brought forth (captive)!” 57 What then, shall we not die 58 Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised? 59 Surely this is the supreme triumph. 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is this not a better reward than the tree of Zaqqum 62 Verily, We have caused it to be a trial for evildoers: 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils. 65 and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, 66 And thereafter verily they shall have thereon a draught of boiling water. 67 Then thereafter, verily, their return is to the flaming fire of Hell. 68 They found their fathers erring, 69 But they make haste (to follow) in their footsteps. 70 Before them erred most of the ancients, 71 And verily We sent among them warners. 72 Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, 73 Except the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 74
