And when the envoys came to the family of Lot, 61 He said, “You are an unfamiliar people.” 62 'No' they replied: 'We bring you (news) of that concerning which they were doubting. 63 “And we have brought to you a true command, and indeed we are truthful.” 64 So set forth, thou with thy family, in a watch of the night, and follow after the backs of them, and let not any one of you turn round; and depart unto the place you are commanded.' 65 And We made known this decree to him, that the root of those (sinners) was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. 67 rushed towards the house of Lot. Lot said to them, "These are my guests. Do not disgrace me. 68 And keep your duty to Allah, and shame me not! 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 He said: 'Here are my daughters; take them (in marriage), if you would be doing' 71 By thy life (O Muhammad) they moved blindly in the frenzy of approaching death. 72 An explosion struck them at sunrise. 73 And We turned the city upside down, and rained on them stones of hardened lava. 74 Surely, in that there are signs for those who contemplate. 75 And surely it is on a road that still abides. 76 Behold! in this is a sign for those who believed. 77 And the Companions of the Wood were also wrong-doers; 78 and so We inflicted Our retribution on them. And behold, both these [sinful communities] lived by a highway, [to this day] plain to see 79
