Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 I ask of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death], 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 The fields of corn and date-palm trees with soft and tender spathes, 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159
