The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 then came down close 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
