The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the sky is torn apart, 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty, 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O human, you are working hard towards your Lord and you will meet Him. 6 Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand, 7 He truly will receive an easy reckoning 8 And he shall return unto his people joyfully. 9 But as for those whose Book of records will be given behind their backs, 10 he will pray for utter destruction 11 but he will enter the blazing flame. 12 He lived rejoicing among his people, 13 He assumed that he does not have to return. 14 Yea! surely his Lord does ever see him. 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 And the night and that which it drives on, 17 And the Moon in her fullness: 18 that you shall surely ride from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 And when the Quran is recited to them they do not make obeisance? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 And Allah well knows what they conceal in their hearts. 23 Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
