The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said, "This is most surely a skillful magician, 109 who desires to expel you from your land; what do you command?' 110 They said, "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send into the cities summoners, 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 And the sorcerers came unto Pharaoh [and] said: "Verily, we ought to have a great reward if it is we who prevail." 113 Answered [Pharaoh]: "Yes; and verily, you shall be among those who are near unto me." 114 They said, "Moses, will you first throw, or shall we?" 115 He said, 'You cast.' And when they cast they put a Spell upon the people's eyes, and called forth fear of them, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 We said to Moses: "Throw down your staff;" and it swallowed up their conjurations in no time. 117 ۞ whereupon the truth was established, and vain was proved all that they had been doing. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and utterly humiliated. 119 and the sorcerers prostrated themselves, 120 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 121 The Lord of Musa and Harun. 122 Firon said: Do you believe in Him before I have given you permission? Surely this is a plot which you have secretly devised in this city, that you may turn out of it its people, but you shall know: 123 “I swear I will cut off your hands and your feet from alternate sides and then crucify you all.” 124 They said, 'Surely unto our Lord we are turning. 125 You would punish us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they were shown to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and cause us to die in a state of submission to You." 126
