Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Join My servants. 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
