The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 This has been happening all along. 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
