The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 Pollution shun! 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
