The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 By the Day as it appears in glory; 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
