[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 And gardens and springs. 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers! 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 In this there is evidence (of the Truth), yet most of them do not have any faith. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
