Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the luminious Book. 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 (His Lord answered): 'Set out with My worshipers in the night, for you will surely be followed. 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
