The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 facing one another. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
