He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and in awe of God 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 mother, father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
