They ask you about Dhu'l-Qarnain. 83 We had given him great power in the land and all kinds of resources. 84 One (such) way he followed, 85 until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and he found nearby a people. We said, 'O Dhool Karnain, either thou shalt chastise them, or thou shalt take towards them a way of kindness.' 86 He said: "Whoever doth wrong, him shall we punish; then shall he be sent back to his Lord; and He will punish him with a punishment unheard-of (before). 87 "But whoever believes, and works righteousness,- he shall have a goodly reward, and easy will be his task as We order it by our Command." 88 And once again he chose the right means [to achieve a right end]. 89 To the extent that when he reached the rising-place of the sun, he found it rising upon a nation for which We had not kept any shelter from it. 90 Thus it was. And surely We have encompassed all that was with him in knowledge 91 Thereafter he followed a way. 92 Until when he reached (a place) between the two mountains, he found on that side of them a people who could hardly understand a word. 93 They said: O Dhu'l-Qarneyn! Lo! Gog and Magog are spoiling the land. So may we pay thee tribute on condition that thou set a barrier between us and them? 94 He said: better is that wherein my Lord hath established me; so help me with might, and I shall place between you and them a rampart. 95 Bring me blocks of iron; until when he had filled up the space between the two mountain sides, he said: Blow, until when he had made it (as) fire, he said: Bring me molten brass which I may pour over it. 96 So they were unable either to scale it or pierce it. 97 Dhul-Qarnain) said: "This is a mercy from my Lord, but when the Promise of my Lord comes, He shall level it down to the ground. And the Promise of my Lord is ever true." 98 ۞ On that day, We will let them surge on one another, and the Horn shall be blown, and We will gather them all together. 99 And We will present Hell that Day to the Disbelievers, on display - 100 Whose eyes were veiled against My warning, and they could not hear. 101
