Mary (Maryam)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Sad 1 A mention of the mercy of thy Lord unto His servant Zachariah. 2 when he called upon his Lord in secret, 3 Saying: "My Lord! Indeed my bones have grown feeble, and grey hair has spread on my head, And I have never been unblest in my invocation to You, O my Lord! 4 And now I fear my kinsfolk after I am gone; and my wife is barren. So give me, from Thee, a kinsman 5 “He being my successor and the heir of the Descendants of Yaqub (Jacob); and my Lord, make him a cherished* one.” (* Make him a Prophet among the Descendants of Israel.) 6 (It was said unto him): O Zachariah! Lo! We bring thee tidings of a son whose name is John; We have given the same name to none before (him). 7 He said: "My Lord! How can I have a boy when my wife is barren and I have reached an extremely old age?" 8 (The angel) said, "This is true, but your Lord says, 'For Me it is easy; I created you when you did not exist". 9 He said: My Lord! Appoint for me some token. He said: Thy token is that thou, with no bodily defect, shalt not speak unto mankind three nights. 10 Then Zachariah came forth from the shrine to his people and told them by signs to glorify the Lord morning and evening. 11 (It was said to his son): "O Yahya (John)! Hold fast the Scripture [the Taurat (Torah)]." And We gave him wisdom while yet a child. 12 And tenderness from Our presence and purity, and he was God-fearing. 13 honoring his parents, being neither arrogant nor rebellious. 14 Peace be on him on the day of his birth, and on the day of his death, and peace will be on him on the day he is raised up to life again. 15
