A large group from the earlier generations. 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 [shadows] neither cooling nor soothing. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 And shall fill therewith your bellies. 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme! 74
