He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And he fears, 9 you ignore him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
