The notables among his people who had refused to believe and who denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and those whom We had endowed with ease and comfort in this life, cried out: "This is no other than a mortal like yourselves who eats what you eat and drinks what you drink. 33 and, indeed, if you pay heed to a mortal like yourselves, you will surely be the losers! 34 Does he promise you that, after you have died and become [mere] dust and bones, you shall be brought forth [to a new life]? 35 ۞ Away! away with that wherewith ye are promised; 36 This is our only life. We live and will die but we will never be brought back to life again. 37 "He is only a man who has invented a lie against Allah, but we are not going to believe in him." 38 The Messenger said: "My Lord! Come to my help at their accusing me of lying." 39 (Allah) said: "In but a little while, they are sure to be sorry!" 40 So As-Saihah (torment - awful cry, etc.) overtook them with justice, and We made them as rubbish of dead plants. So away with the people who are Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, disobedient to His Messengers, etc.). 41 Then, after them, We brought forth other generations. 42 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Yet whenever its Messenger came to a nation they belied him, so We made them follow others, and We made them but as tales, so begone the nation who did not believe! 44 We then sent Moosa and his brother Haroon, with Our signs and a clear proof. 45 To Firon and his chiefs, but they behaved haughtily and they were an insolent people. 46 'What' they said, 'are we to believe in two mortals like us, whose nation are our worshipers' 47 Then they belied the twain; so they became of those who were destroyed. 48 And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Musa the Book, that haply they may be guided. 49 We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and gave them a refuge on a hillside where there was a hollow and a spring. 50
