The people of Thamud rejected Our warnings. 23 For they said: "What! a man! a Solitary one from among ourselves! shall we follow such a one? Truly should we then be straying in mind, and mad! 24 "Is it that the Message is sent to him, of all people amongst us? Nay, he is a liar, an insolent one!" 25 'They shall surely know tomorrow who is the impudent liar. 26 Indeed, We are sending the she-camel as trial for them, so watch them and be patient. 27 And let them know that the water [of their wells] is to be divided between them, with each share of water equitably apportioned." 28 But they call their comrade and he took and hamstrung (her). 29 How terrible was My punishment and warning. 30 Behold, We let loose upon them one single blast [of Our punishment,] and they became like the dried-up, crumbling twigs of a sheepfold. 31 We made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would take heed? 32 The people of Lut rejected (his) warning. 33 We let loose on all of them a squall of claystones, except for the house of Lot whom We saved at dawn 34 as a favour from Us. Thus do We reward those who give thanks. 35 Lot warned them of Our punishment, but they disputed the warnings -- 36 They even asked of him his guests for an ill purpose. Then We blinded their eyes (and said): Taste now My punishment after My warnings! 37 And indeed, abiding suffering did befall them early on the morrow: 38 “So taste My punishment, and My warnings!” 39 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 40
