The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
