Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HaMeem 1 By the luminious Book. 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 During it are distributed all the works of wisdom. 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Yet they are in doubt, playing. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 The day that We shall seize them with a grievous hold, We will indeed castigate them. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
