The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and banana trees, 29 and spreading shade 30 and flowing water, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
