The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
