The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, "Do you not fear?" 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 Do you believe that you will be left here to live securely in the present state 146 In gardens and springs. 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 "And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?" 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 Who corrupt the land and do not reform it." 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
