He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 to a rich man, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and who has fear of God, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
