The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night, when it envelops, 1 And the day resplendent 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And none hath with him any favour for reward, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
