A company of the former peoples 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 They were endowed with good things 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients?' 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten – 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Is it you who cultivate it, or is it We Who develop it? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 [It comes down sweet - but] were it Our will, We could make it burningly salty and bitter: why, then, do you not give thanks [unto Us]? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
