A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
