Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
