The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 And his wife and his brother 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 and who accumulated wealth without spending it for a good purpose. 18 ۞ Indeed, the human was created grudging and impatient. 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 who guard their carnal desires 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
