And recite to them the news of Ibrahim. 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them. 71 He said, “Do they hear you when you call?” 72 or do they cause you any benefit or harm?" 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 you and your forefathers of yore? 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 who has created me and is the One who guides me, 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 And He Who, I long, shall forgive me my faults, on the Day of Requital. 82 My Lord, bestow wisdom upon me; unite me with the righteous; 83 And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 Do not degrade me on the Day when they are resurrected. 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart." 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 And the Fierce Fire shall be made apparent unto the seduced ones. 91 And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship 92 Besides Allah? Can they help you or yet help themselves? 93 Then they will be thrown headlong into Hell, both they and the misguided ones, 94 Together with the hordes of Iblis. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 By Allah! we were certainly in manifest error, 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 yet they who have seduced us [into believing in you] are the truly guilty ones! 99 So we have no intercessors, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 Would that we could have a chance to live again so that we might become believers." 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Ever Compassionate. 104
