The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the setting star, 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
