He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 You pay full attention, 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
