Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Dawn, 1 and ten nights, 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
