Said the Council of the people of Pharaoh, 'Surely this man is a cunning sorcerer 109 "His plan is to get you out of your land: then what is it ye counsel?" 110 They said, 'Put him and his brother off a while, and send among the cities musterers, 111 to bring thee every cunning sorcerer.' 112 And the sorcerers came unto Pharaoh [and] said: "Verily, we ought to have a great reward if it is we who prevail." 113 Answered [Pharaoh]: "Yes; and verily, you shall be among those who are near unto me." 114 The magicians asked Moses, "Will you throw your staff first or shall we?" 115 He said, 'You cast.' And when they cast they put a Spell upon the people's eyes, and called forth fear of them, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 Then We revealed to Moses: 'Now, throw down your staff' And thereupon it swallowed up their false invention. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed, and that which they had brought vanished. 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 And down fell the sorcerers, prostrating themselves 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” 122 But Pharaoh said: "You have come to accept belief in Him without my permission! This surely is a plot you have hatched to expel the people from the land. You will soon come to know. 123 I will certainly cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then will I crucify you all together. 124 They said, "Indeed, to our Lord we will return. 125 Thou takest vengeance on us only forasmuch as we believed the tokens of our Lord when they came unto us. Our Lord! Vouchsafe unto us steadfastness and make us die as men who have surrendered (unto Thee). 126
