(O Prophet), did the story of Abraham's honoured guests reach you? 24 When they entered unto him, saying 'Peace!' he said 'Peace! You are a people unknown to me.' 25 Then he turned to his household and brought a fattened calf, 26 And placing it before them said: "Won't you eat?" 27 Then he conceived a fear of them. They said, 'Be not afraid!' And they gave him good tidings of a cunning boy. 28 Then his wife came up in great grief, and she struck her face and said: An old barren woman! 29 They answered: "Thus has thy Sustainer decreed; and verily, He alone is truly wise, all-knowing!" 30 ۞ (Abraham) said: "And what, O ye Messengers, is your errand (now)?" 31 They said: Lo! we are sent unto a guilty folk, 32 to loose upon them stones of clay 33 marked with thy Lord for the prodigal. 34 Thus We brought forth from therein who were believers. 35 But We found in it only one household of those who had surrendered themselves, 36 And We left therein a sign for those who fear the afflictive torment. 37 In Moses, too, (there were signs). We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority, 38 but he turned his back, with his court, saying, 'A sorcerer, or a man possessed!' 39 We therefore seized him and his army and threw them into the sea, while he was blaming himself. 40 And in 'A-ad also was a lesson, when We sent against them the barren wind. 41 which spared nothing of what it came upon, but caused [all of] it to become like bones dead and decayed. 42 In the Thamud [there was another sign], when they were told, "Make the most of your lives for a while." 43 But they were insolent toward the command of their Lord, so the thunderbolt seized them while they were looking on. 44 Then they were unable to rise up, nor could they help themselves. 45 And before them, We destroyed the people of Nooh; they were indeed a sinning nation. 46
