The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? 1 We created man of a sperm-drop, a mingling, and We made him hearing, seeing. 2 Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 For the unbelievers, We have kept ready chains and fetters and a Blazing Fire. 4 Surely the devotees will drink cups flavoured with palm blossoms 5 which flows from a spring from which the servants of God will drink. 6 These will be the ones who fulfil their vows and dread the Day whose woe shall be spread far and wide; 7 And feed the needy for the love of Him, and the orphans and the captives, 8 (saying): 'We feed you only desirous of the Face of Allah; we seek of you neither recompense nor thanks, 9 we fear from our Lord a Day that shall be long and distressful.” 10 Therefore, God will ward off from them the woes of that Day, and make them find brightness and joy, 11 For their patience, He will reward them with Paradise and silk. 12 Reclining therein on raised thrones, they will see there neither the excessive heat of the sun, nor the excessive bitter cold, (as in Paradise there is no sun and no moon). 13 The shades of the garden will be closely spread over them and it will be easy for them to reach the fruits. 14 They will be served with silver dishes and crystal clear goblets. 15 (Bright as) glass but (made) of silver, which they (themselves) have measured to the measure (of their deeds). 16 There are they watered with a cup whereof the mixture is of Zanjabil, 17 From a fountain therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ And there shall go round unto them youths ever-young. When thou seest them thou wouldst deem them pearls unstrung. 19 And when you see there, you shall see blessings and a great kingdom. 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and of brocades. And adorned they shall be with bracelets of silver: and their Lord shall give them drink a beverage pure. 21 [And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated." 22
