The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 a fitting requital, 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
