He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and purified. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
