The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
