Has the story reached thee, of the honoured guests of Abraham? 24 When they came to him, they said: "Peace." He answered: "Peace." They were a people he did not recognise. 25 Then he turned quietly to his household, and brought forth a fat [roasted] calf, 26 and placed it before them. "Will you not eat?" he said, 27 [And when he saw that the guests would not eat,] he became apprehensive of them; [but] they said, "Fear not" - and gave him the glad tiding of [the birth of] a son who would be endowed with deep knowledge. 28 (Sarah) his wife came with an exclamation and clasped her face, and said: 'Surely, I am a barren old woman' 29 They said: Even so saith thy Lord. Lo! He is the Wise, the Knower. 30 ۞ [Abraham] said, "Then what is your business [here], O messengers?" 31 They replied: 'We are sent to a sinful nation, 32 to let loose upon them stone-hard blows of chastisement, 33 which are marked by your Lord for the punishment of those guilty of excesses." 34 So We removed the people who had faith, from that town. 35 But We found there but one house of those surrendered (to Allah). 36 And We left there a Sign for such as fear the Grievous Penalty. 37 And in Moses (was another Sign): Behold, We sent him to Pharaoh, with authority manifest. 38 But he turned away with his forces and said: A magician or a mad man. 39 So We seized him and his hosts and cast them into the sea. Indeed, he was blameworthy. 40 And also in Ad, when We loosed against them the withering wind 41 that left nothing it came upon, except that it was ashes. 42 And in Thamud (there is also a sign), when they were told: "Enjoy yourselves for a while!" 43 But in their pride they turn away from the commandment of their Lord and the thunderbolt struck them whilst they were looking; 44 Then they were unable to rise up, nor could they help themselves. 45 And before them the nation of Noah, indeed they were a debauched nation. 46
