The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and continuous shade, 30 and gushing water, 31 and fruits abounding 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 on raised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
