O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; 2 half the night, or a little less 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 Verily We! anon We shall cast upon thee a weighty word. 5 Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and, leaving others, devote yourself solely to Him. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god except Him. Take Him for your Guardian. 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 and food that chokes, and a painful chastisement, 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 The heaven shall rend asunder thereby; His promise is ever brought to fulfillment. 18 This is indeed an advice; so whoever wishes may take the path towards his Lord. 19
