The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 And those who undo the bonds gently, 2 And [by] those who glide [as if] swimming 3 By the angels hastening, 4 by those that direct an affair! 5 A Day shall come whereon the quaking will quake, 6 to be followed by further [convulsions], 7 On that day hearts beat painfully 8 Unable to lift their gaze. 9 They say: "Shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state of life? 10 "Even after we are crumbled bones?" 11 They say: Then that would be a vain proceeding. 12 Surely they will need no more than a single stern blast, 13 and behold, they are awakened. 14 Hath there come unto thee the story of Musa! 15 How his Lord called him in the holy vale of Tuwa, 16 That “Go to Firaun – he has rebelled.” 17 And say (unto him): Hast thou (will) to grow (in grace)? 18 And I will guide you to your Lord so that you should fear. 19 Moses showed him the great miracle 20 but he denied it and refused [the faith]. 21 Then he turned his back, striving. 22 And he gathered [his people] and called out 23 And then said, “I am your most supreme lord.” 24 Thereupon Allah seized him for the chastisement of the World to Come as well as of the present. 25 surely there is in this a lesson for the God-fearing. 26
