The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By oath of the heaven, and by oath of the nightly arriver. 1 Do you know what al-tariq is? 2 (It is) the star of piercing brightness; 3 There is no soul but has a protector over it. 4 So let man consider of what he was created; 5 He was created of spurting water 6 that issues from between the loins and the ribs. 7 Now, verily, He [who thus creates man in the first instance] is well able to bring him back [to life] 8 The Day when secrets will be put on trial, 9 Then he shall have no power nor any helper. 10 By the heaven which giveth the returning rain, 11 and by the earth bursting with vegetation; 12 That this (Qur'an) is a decisive word 13 and it is certainly not a jest. 14 They are devising guile, 15 and I am devising guile. 16 Let, then, the deniers of the truth have their will: let them have their will for a little while. 17
